Your data stays on your Mac. Always.
WiFi Lens processes everything locally. No accounts, no cloud, no tracking.
No personal data collection
WiFi Lens does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information. The app contains no user accounts, no analytics SDKs, no ad networks, and no telemetry frameworks. We operate no backend servers to receive your data — because we have no interest in having it.
Why we request permissions
Wi‑Fi — Core function: scanning and analyzing nearby wireless networks.
Bluetooth — Optional: discover nearby Bluetooth devices for coexistence analysis. This is off by default and runs entirely on your device.
Location — macOS requires this for any app that reads Wi‑Fi network names (SSID). WiFi Lens never accesses your GPS coordinates or records your location.
Local Network — Only used if you turn on the MCP server in Settings. It listens on your own computer (127.0.0.1) so local tools like Claude Desktop can read Wi‑Fi data. Off by default — nothing leaves your Mac.
Everything stays on your machine
All Wi‑Fi scan results, Bluetooth discovery data, channel recommendations, and regulatory region detection run entirely on-device. No scan data is ever uploaded to a remote server.
Crash reports and diagnostic logs are written to files on your own disk. Nothing is transmitted unless you explicitly choose to share it.
When you run a manual Network Self‑Check, WiFi Lens sends local HTTP and HTTPS probes to verify connectivity. These requests may route through any system proxy you have configured. Only connection outcomes are recorded — no personal data is attached.
The MCP server binds to 127.0.0.1 (localhost only). No scan data leaves your machine through MCP unless you deliberately route it elsewhere.
Editions
WiFi Lens Pro is distributed through the Mac App Store, while an open-source edition is available on GitHub. Both editions run entirely on your Mac and process scan data locally. The App Store edition uses Apple's built-in update mechanism; the open-source edition uses the Sparkle framework to fetch only a version descriptor from GitHub — no personal data, analytics, or diagnostics are transmitted.
Website analytics
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure aggregate page views and performance. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies, localStorage, or fingerprinting for analytics. It is separate from the WiFi Lens app: no Wi‑Fi scan data, network names, diagnostics, or app activity is sent to this website analytics service.
Open source & verifiable
The complete source code of WiFi Lens OSS is available under the Apache 2.0 license. Every claim on this page can be independently verified by anyone who reads the code.
