Install & first launch

Two ways to run WiFi Lens on your Mac — both are signed and notarized by Apple.

OSS from GitHub

  1. Download the latest .dmg from GitHub Releases.
  2. Open it and drag WiFi Lens to Applications.
  3. Launch from Applications — right-click → Open if macOS blocks it.

Pro from the Mac App Store

  1. Install WiFi Lens from the Mac App Store in one click.
  2. It updates automatically, like any App Store app.
  3. Launch it from Launchpad or Applications.

Enable Location Services (required)

macOS requires location permission before any app can read Wi-Fi network names (SSIDs). Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services and turn on WiFi Lens when prompted. It never reads your GPS position.

Troubleshooting

  • Blocked at launch — right-click the app, choose Open, and confirm. WiFi Lens is signed and notarized by Apple.
  • No SSIDs appear — enable Location Services for WiFi Lens above. This is a macOS requirement, not a bug.
  • 6 GHz shows as 5 GHz — a macOS API limitation; band info is in the channel number (see FAQ).
